Just as experimental as Persona, The Silence is one of Bergman’s most subtle, relatable, bleak, and yet beautiful movies.
A very subtle picture. It requires a special state of mind to enjoy watching it
So ends the Silence trilogy. Who can you confess to if no one is listening? Watch some other Bergman before this one.
Not the most compelling of Bergman's "trilogy," but nonetheless a complex, rich film.
Haunting Bergman film is raw & beautiful. So much of it is unexpressed. Jörgen Lindström captured my heart as a child torn between 2 women.

Just a bit too slow for my taste, but ultimately beautiful and poignant.

As children in the loving Ekdahl family, Fanny and Alexander enjoy a happy life with their parents, who run a theater company. After their father dies unexpectedly, however, the siblings end up in a joyless home when their mother, Emilie, marries a stern bishop. The bleak situation gradually grows worse as the bishop becomes more controlling, but dedicated relatives make a valiant attempt to aid Emilie, Fanny and Alexander.
Art film producer Jeremy Prokosch, unhappy with the work of his director, hires Fritz Lang (as himself) to direct an adaptation of The Odyssey, but when it seems that the legendary filmmaker is making a picture destined to bomb, he brings in a screenwriter to energise the script. The professional intersects with the personal when a rift develops between the writer and his wife.
