It's not the first slasher but it's definitely the blueprint if it wasn't for the thing this would be carpenter's magnum opus
A classic. The acting is kinda funny though.
An excellent horror film from the mind of John Carpenter. This movie was a fun watch as it kept the suspense throughout. The score is great.
My vote for the best modern horror movie.
The original Halloween is a really good low budget slasher. Although, the caracter of Lydia doesn't work for me at all.

This might be a pretty problematic take, but this is the greatest horror film of all time. Myers is the definition of evil. Amazing film.

Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween Night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.
After failing to kill stubborn survivor Laurie and taking a bullet or six from former psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis, Michael Myers has followed Laurie to the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, where she's been admitted for Myers' attempt on her life. The institution proves to be particularly suited to serial killers, however, as Myers cuts, stabs and slashes his way through hospital staff to reach his favorite victim.
Dr. Dan Challis and murder victim daughter Ellie Grimbridge uncover a terrible plot by small-town mask maker Conal Cochran, a madman planning a Halloween mass murder utilizing an ancient Celtic ritual. The ritual involves a boulder stolen from Stonehenge, the use of Silver Shamrock masks, and a triggering device contained in a television commercial — all designed to kill millions of children.
The apparently comatose Michael Myers is being transferred from one hospital to another, but he wakes up when the ambulance crew talk about his surviving niece, Jamie. After slaughtering his attendants, Myers sets out to find his one living relative who is, fortunately, being cared for by a kind and resourceful foster sister named Rachel. Meanwhile, the ever-cautious Dr. Loomis remains on the killer's path.
