Wealthy rancher Bick Benedict and dirt-poor cowboy Jett Rink both woo Leslie Lynnton, a beautiful young woman from Maryland who is new to Texas. She marries Benedict, but she is shocked by the racial bigotry of the White Texans against the local people of Mexican descent. Rink discovers oil on a small plot of land, and while he uses his vast, new wealth to buy all the land surrounding the Benedict ranch, the Benedict's disagreement over prejudice fuels conflict that runs across generations.

A very emotional epic. It wasn't too long for me, I was always invested. All the performances are great, especially James dean.

A simultaneously saddening and uplifting narrative exemplifying the inevitability of change and the inability to preserve tradition.

A big movie for sure. Strong performances and compelling themes carry you through the daunting runtime. Doesn’t fly by, but it’s paced well.

Flawed but the acting makes it worthwhile.

Epic of another era. Still relevant and beautiful, but slow by modern standards. The themes land still, but the characters feel caricatures.
