While it doesn’t age very well, for 1939 it’s great. Can only imagine sitting in a theater then and watching it for the first time.
The western to inspire them all, with a star-making performance from John Wayne. Ford really knows how to direct a movie

Its ok, but there are too many ideas and characters and substories for one movie. It becomes a chore to keep up and tie together lose ends
Great classic western with a solid cast.
It’s a pretty good golden age western. Ford’s on location filming makes his films stand out against other of the same era.
What can I say? Film’s a masterclass in staging, framing, and blocking. And man is it beautiful. But hot take: I don’t get the Wayne hype.
This movie embodies everything a western should be.
Cowboys invented cinema, John Wayne invented aura. Desert? Ate. Plot? Galloped.
Fantastic film with one of Wayne’s best roles. So many iconic moments bolstered by Ford’s direction. They would have shot the horses though.
