In every way this movie should not work, but it does, so effortlessly and so brilliantly.
This movie was daring at the time of its release, and it still is, with loads of laughter.
Somehow, during WWII, humans made a moving comedy about eluding the Nazis. Holds up well, and it must have been shocking then.
Jack Benny is great in this satire. I can see why Mel brooks remade this

Mixing comedy and wartime drama shouldn’t work at all, let alone so well. Ballsy as hell since it was made prior to the US entering WWII.
Timeless classic about resistance and how to fight oppression wirh humour, wit and heart. Very funny still.
has this almost looney-tunes-esque 1940’s humor, which i dug. classic from the golden era.
It takes a bit to get going, but I laughed considerably more than I was expecting to. Some real wit in this script
This is ahead of its time! Absolutely hilarious; the remake by Mel Brooks is great as well!
