Very decent continuation of the Planet of the Apes reboot series. It certainly is a requel.
Still teaching sociopolitical lessons, this time through a Hero's Journey. Great stuff

I enjoyed the film more than the others. It was good to get rid of Caesar and bring in some new protagonist. Should set up a sequel nicely.
Expands the lore in interesting ways. Makes you forget they are CGI apes.
Still below the Andy Serkis trilogy, imo, but still pretty good. Interesting to see the world generations later.
I purposely left this movie to be watched on an airplane, and it was surprisingly good. I think Fox can get one more movie out of this.
Cements the Apes franchise as a consistently great watch. Sets the stage for more great stories.

A highly intelligent chimpanzee named Caesar has been living a peaceful suburban life ever since he was born. But when he gets taken to a cruel primate facility, Caesar decides to revolt against those who have harmed him.
A group of scientists in San Francisco struggle to stay alive in the aftermath of a plague that is wiping out humanity, while Caesar tries to maintain dominance over his community of intelligent apes.
Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
Several generations following Caesar's reign, apes – now the dominant species – live harmoniously while humans have been reduced to living in the shadows.
