A classic for sure, would’ve liked to see the original cut but still a great watch.
An often poignant look at the twilight of a bygone era, it’s just a shame Orson Welles didn’t get his final cut.
I would’ve loved to watch Welles’ original cut with the sadder ending. But this one is not all that bad either, has some great moments.
Only 1 year after Citizen Kane, and top hats were already getting in Orson Welles’ way, removing the jilted charm he is most comfortable in.
Im so sad we never get to see Orsons original cut. They changed the whole ending, the part Orson was most proud of.
Though the story itself is a bar below Citizen Kane and Touch of Evil, Welles' directing is as good as ever and worth the watch alone.
