Only those who have seen Citizen Kane can understand the beauty and charm of this film, of course, the rhythm of the film is very low!
Excellent cinematography and nothing less than expected from Gary Oldman
There’s a lot of push and pull with pacing, but it’s not what I anticipated. It had some of the Golden Age charm. Well done.
Dialogue and cinematography is fantastic, however it’s difficult to become emotionally invested in. The average moviegoer will be bored.
Pretty fascinating story and someone I didn’t know much about. Really enjoyed this film.
Interesting character study piece. Not his best, but still you get great performances from everyone and a throwback to old Hollywood.
Very artificial film with a unique characters that tells a tragic beautiful story in the style of black and white classics like Citizen Kane
An interesting picture from David Fincher, with beautiful black and white scenery and great acting from Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried
Despite decent knowledge of classic H-wood I was often lost, so I think most would be even more so. That said, this is sharp and mostly fun.
The concept and style might be more interesting than the story itself, but there's enough there to appreciate for fans of old hollywood
