A rule-bound head butler's world of manners and decorum in the household he maintains is tested by the arrival of a housekeeper who falls in love with him in post-WWI Britain. The possibility of romance and his master's cultivation of ties with the Nazi cause challenge his carefully maintained veneer of servitude.

Such stoic, meaningful glances. Merchant-Ivory makes a solid hit in their wheelhouse

While it isn't everyones cup of tea, this film beautifully illustrates the tragedy and simplicity of ignorance, devotion, and self awareness

Hate the existencial crisis Im stuck with now, but its scary how a fiction movie remembers so much the times we live by. We work and work.

This picture deserve all praises. It's a piece of art, done masterfully by a very cautious and patient director. It's a ten.

Near perfect film alternating 2 time periods in England. Sir Anthony, Emma T, Chris R. (RIP) are magnificent in this complex film.

A very delicate movie which slowly unfolds the utter tragedy of a wasted life.

Very good adaptation of a brilliant book. Quite slow and a lot of things aren't said but nevertheless a rewarding watch.

A really slow burn and Anthony Hopkins does a really good job as always but as I said, movie is slow and ending does not feel that good.
