Not one of Kurosawa’s stronger films but still a damn good early film noir, and a great detective film

Although Kurosawa luxuriates in the details a bit to much, Stray Dog is a terrific noir and an interesting portrait of post war Japan.
An amazing, well-acted film that provides an insight into post-war Japan. It feels like an ancestor of movies like Se7en.

A fun noir set in a hot Japanese summer. The central mystery culminates in a wonderful scene towards the end. Well worth a watch.
If you like noir and haven’t tried Kurosawa this is your gateway film.
The cinematography in the final standoff scene for this film is masterpiece. Very underrated I got to say.
I’m not used to seeing Mifune looking so smooth. Oddly fitting vibes with this one given the current heatwave. All I need is a colt.
A more refined Kurosawa in a suspenseful Tokyo gumshoe story. Notably still has room for improvement which would culminate with Rashomon.
