Poltergeist II doesn't hold a candle to the original but the addition of a memorable antagonist saves it from pure mediocrity.
A great sequel that adds elements the first didn't have like a fleshed out atagonist. A bit darker and more intense, a really good sequel.
Goes a little bit too far into explaining everything that it derails the flow of the film. Not enough fresh takes on the idea either.

The special effects are the highlight of this movie. The story is predictable but the preacher was still creepy.
Definitely a step down from the predecessor, but the preacher character is creepy.

Very creepy sequel 2 the 1st part! Just brims over with sinister menace! Doubt this'll get a remake though! Or the 3rd part! Bums on seats!

The Freelings' suburban home becomes the center of paranormal activity that opens a portal to the 'other side'. With help, they must cross over to get their daughter back.
The Freeling family move in with Diane's mother in an effort to escape the trauma and aftermath of Carol Anne's abduction by the Beast. But the Beast is not to be put off so easily and appears in a ghostly apparition as the Reverend Kane, a religious zealot responsible for the deaths of his many followers. His goal is simple - he wants the angelic Carol Anne.
Carol Anne has been sent to live with her Aunt and Uncle in an effort to hide her from the clutches of the ghostly Reverend Kane, but he tracks her down and terrorises her in her relatives' appartment in a tall glass building. Will he finally achieve his target and capture Carol Anne again, or will Tangina be able, yet again, to thwart him?
A family's suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.
