Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters
Drama • R • 1985 • 2 hr 1 min
With all due respect to Taxi Driver, this is Paul Schrader’s true masterpiece.
Threads of fiction, biography, and philosophy, woven together with beautiful design and an incredible score to create a masterful portrait.
The most beautiful movie I have ever seen
Probably the best film I will ever see. My second favorite of all time, but definitely the best for me.
Brilliant look into one of historys most fascinating people. Gorgeous ending sequence with excellent buildup, terrific acting and direction.
Highly recommended. Mishima is one of the most interesting writers in history and this movie definitely does him justice.
Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) creates an odd hybrid 'meta-bio' of famed Japanese writer who protested westernization of Japan
Moments of pure brilliance, but a little rough around the edges. An overly ambitious film
Shocking, sad, toxic and yet ultimately still beautiful. Mishima is pure lightning in a bottle, a masterpiece unlike anything else.
An intense ride, a good rendition of what pride is
