Episodes can be hit or miss, tropes and themes can feel tired and awkward, but at the end of the day it’s a comfortable, funny show.
This movie has little in relation to the tv show but it does lay out the Altman style. I enjoyed it for what it was.

Chaotic and cocky; it’s good, but it’s rebellious theme starts to wear thin around the middle & the main characters just seem egocentric.
Altman became a top draw director. Funky film, part scripted, part improv. Wacky characters. TV spoiled it with a sanitized series.
Classic comedy. Relatable characters. There's a reason why everyone grew up watching the re-runs.

Joe Buck is a wide-eyed hustler from Texas hoping to score big with wealthy New York City women; he finds a companion in Enrico "Ratso" Rizzo, an ailing swindler with a bum leg and a quixotic fantasy of escaping to Florida.
