Definitely ahead of it's time! Some great cinematography and great acting from the central character!
This was incredible. The screenplay, characters, pacing, performances, finale, everything about the movie was top-notch.

When disillusioned Swedish knight Antonius Block returns home from the Crusades to find his country in the grips of the Black Death, he challenges Death to a chess match for his life.
