This is the movie The Departed is based on. Imo better due to its runtime and pacing, but suffers from some melodramatic 90s editing.
This is the original. The Departed is a good copy4 years later. The original is brilliantly acted but no Oscar. *****
They should have had a mole walk across the balcony railing at the end of the movie. That would have bumped this up to 4 stars.
Leagues better than The Departed. Good suspense and doesn’t bash you over the head with lazy attempts at symbolism
I loved this film, but what struck me as weird about it was it had the same plot and actor (and one scene) as the subplot of Hard Boiled.
Incredible crime-thriller, with a meticulously crafted plot and a riveting character dynamic, depicting the identity conflict of two leads
One of the greatest movies from Hong Kong, this is definitely one of the legendary.
Tense. Exciting. Intelligent. Accessible. Awesome.
Great film. Hard to enjoy as much having seen The Departed first.
I saw this after the departed and liked it just as much. Although the story is the same the way it’s done makes it seem so distinct
Chan Wing Yan, a young police officer, has been sent undercover as a mole in the local mafia. Lau Kin Ming, a young mafia member, infiltrates the police force. Years later, their older counterparts, Chen Wing Yan and Inspector Lau Kin Ming, respectively, race against time to expose the mole within their midst.
In this prequel to the original, a bloody power struggle among the Triads coincides with the 1997 handover of Hong Kong, setting up the events of the first film.
While Yeung Kam Wing is trying to remove all connections between the mob and him, his actions are being carefully observed by Lau Kin Ming, who bears a personal grudge against him.
