When a casino-owning dog named Charlie is murdered by his rival Carface, he finds himself in Heaven. Wanting to get back at his killer, he cons his way back to the living with the warning that doing so damns him to Hell. Once back, he teams with his old partner, Itchy, to prep his retaliation. He stumbles upon an orphan girl who can talk to the animals, thus allowing him to get the inside info on the races to ensure his wins to finance his plans. However, all the while, he is still haunted by nightmares of what's waiting for him on the other side unless he can prove that he is worthy of Heaven again.

An underestimated movie, truly a gem for the children’s, great plot and charming characters

A movie so sad, it's unbearable even to watch.

A Don Bluth classic! Which also means some dark themes like death, heaven and hell,so be warned. Still a touching movie for the whole family

This one will forever hold a special place in my heart. A heartwarming, yet sad, film. I'm about 30 and it still makes me cry.

The animation in this movie is great, the voice work is great,and the story is good, but a little bit different from many other kids movies.

Made me cry but overall a good movie to watch!!

The late 80s were a strange time. Making a kids movie about dead dogs probably wouldn’t fly today. Voice acting is decent, story is odd.
