Brought together by professional and personal heartache, two plucky ladies plant the seeds for a brighter future. Rosemary Boxer, with a doctorate in plant pathology, and Laura Thyme, a former police constable and avid gardener, discover their shared love of green-thumbness and start a gardening business. As they restore various English gardens back to their lavish states, the inquisitive pair also find themselves uncovering an assortment of mysteries.

Rosemary Boxer goes to visit her friend Daniel Kellaway, who suffers from eczema, to receive a cash grant for her university but is asked by him to investigate the dying trees in the grounds of his mansion home. Laura Thyme has left her home after being cheated on by her husband and goes to see her friend Sam, who is later killed in a car accident whilst driving home one night. After meeting one another and forming a firm friendship, Rosemary and Laura begin to investigate into the accident and the dying trees.

And No Birds Sing

The newly formed gardening duo 'Rosemary and Thyme' are called to help pop star Nev Connolly design and create the gardens for he and his wife Patsy's new house.

Whilst working on the grounds, all are shocked when a digger uncovers the skeleton of a horse, which Patsy suspects could be Arabica, a horse stolen from the stables where she once worked.

That night, Rosemary is woken by the sound of a gunshot and hurries outside to find out where it came from. Joined by Laura, they discover that Nev has been shot dead.

Returning to work the next day, Rosemary is intrigued by a cut in the ground. Digging around it, she uncovers the skeleton of a human hand...

Arabica and the Early Spider

Rosemary and Laura are called to Vincent House Health Spa to rejuvenate 'The Dell' a water cascade designed by a women named Fenella Gothe, who has since died.

Fearing they may not be able to get the water running again, they are surprised when Frances Caldecott, the owner of the site, requests a whole new plant arrangement to the one her late husband Edwin originally chose.

Rosemary is given a book entitled 'The Language of Flowers' written by Edwin before he died, but not published until recently. In the book, Edwin has documented how different flowers can symbolize a range of actions and emotions.

Laura and Rosemary are invited to dinner with Frances and her children Kate and Jeff. When Frances doesn't arrive, the party are shocked to find her strangled in her study...

The Language of Flowers

Rosemary and Laura are summoned to Bowden Grange Language College to solve the mystery of random dead patches appearing on the lawns.

Whilst shopping in the town, Laura witnesses one of the college students named Angelica, accused of shoplifting. When Reynolds, the security guard, searches her bag he pulls out a knife and takes her for questioning.

Back at the college, Rosemary and Laura are roped into searching for Angelica, who has since disappeared along with Felix the college handyman.

Driving along the surrounding roads, the duo discover the body of Felix in a ditch, with his throat cut...

Sweet Angelica

Rosemary and Laura travel across the country to assist Rosemary's old friend the blind Professor Mullins, who has asked them to look into the odd death of random patches of plants on his allotment.

The duo accompany the professor to an allotment committee meeting to discuss the strange circumstances but are shocked to find that the allotments are to be sold to a building firm.

The professor manages to force a vote on the decision to sell the land and saves the day, much to the disappointment of builder Mr Kelly and site owner Hugo Dainty.

Returning to the allotments the next day, Rosemary and Laura discover the lifeless body of Professor Mullins in a hole near his allotment...

A Simple Plot

Rosemary and Laura go to the village of Baffington where they are asked by the vicar to clean up the local churchyard in time for the upcoming Medieval Fayre.

They soon meet Mr Danvers, a medieval times enthusiast who tells them about his plans to buy a local site called Brockett's farm but has competition for the land from drugs firm Knussens.

At a village meeting to discuss the matter, the co-owner of Brockett's farm, the long lost Malcolm Sutton turns up, vowing not to sell the property.

When Rosemary and Laura return to the churchyard the next day, they discover Malcolm under a yew  tree, with an arrow through his chest...

The Tree Of Death

Rosemary and Laura are called to Lyvedon manor to restore the now derelict wall gardens by the request of the garden's owner Martin Frazer.

As a source of cheap labor to assisst Rosemary and Laura work on the gardens, Martin enlists the help of a group of inmates from the local prison.

Initially Rosemary is suspicious of working with prisoners but soon gets used to it, but a greater shock awaits her when she witnesses Martin's odd cousin Jim jumping into the local fast flowing river, killing himself.

Soon after at the local market, Rosemary is shocked to see Jim walking around, despite his body being found and identified by Martin himself... (Includes Parts 1 and 2)

The Memory of Water

Rosemary and Laura are asked to design a memorial garden based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice for an old friend called Julia Moore.

Laura discovers that her daughter Helena is being housed by Julia nearby and tries to heal a rift with her when she blames her parents' break up on her mother.

Laura manages to put her family problems to one side when another tenant of Julia's, a man called Jeremy Pearson is found dead in the soon-to-be memorial garden.

Rosemary and Laura must find out who murdered Jeremy whilst dealing with a mysterious figure, who is vandalizing their work on the garden every night...

Orpheus In The Undergrowth

Rosemary and Laura are called to Paris by Rosemary's old friend Dorothy, to catalog the plants in the 150 year-old gardens at her Riviera Villa (Villa Galavany) in order for them to be opened to the public.

The duo realize they will face problems when one of Dorothy's neighbors called James Pretty makes it known he feels strongly against hordes of visitors coming to the area.

Things get more hostile when Dorothy's husband Kasper is found dead, and one of her valuable pieces of silver is stolen...

They Understand Me In Paris

Rosemary and Laura are called to Stagford Lodge Prep School to investigate the case of the newly planted roses dying, as well as extending the already planted rose garden.

Whilst investigating the problem the duo are invited by Mr Oakley the classics teacher to dine at the masters table on 'the night of the stag' when the school boys play a practical joke on one of the masters.

The night goes horribly awry and two teacher are attacked. Despite the events Rosemary and Laura begin to suspect there is even more trouble to come and their suspicions are proved when they discover the body of Simon Todd, the geography master buried in the grounds...

The Invisible Worm

Gavin Patterson's TV Garden Makeover show is in need of a desperate boost of ratings so he hires yacht's woman Quinnie Dorell to present the show.

Quinnie's knowledge of gardens however, isn't terribly good so she asks Rosemary and Laura to come and help her present the program.

Events take a nasty turn when Rosemary falls from a scaffolding tower in a sabotage attempt seemingly aimed at Quinnie. Soon after, a young visiting journalist named Rosie FitzCarron is found dead in the secluded lake, but why...

The Gongoozlers

Rosemary and Laura travel to Italy to prepare the gardens for Emma Standish's new Italian restaurant but find themselves behind with the work.

They decide to relax themselves and are recommended to go on a guided tour of Giardini Tremonti by the local fixer Fabrizio Biaggi.

The tour however is halted when a lady named Janice Alexander is found dead. Fabrizio is arrested but Rosemary and Laura are asked to prove his innocence by Emma.

As events unfold, a murderous trend emerges when retired Foreign Office diplomat Basil Slavinski is also found dead at the bottom of his cliff top garden...

The Italian Rapscallion

Laura is shocked to hear from a news report that Rosemary has been shot dead whilst investigating a problem of dying plants at Engleton Park.

Denying the fact that Rosemary would start a job without her, Laura puts it upon herself to tell Rosemary's mother Barbara what has happened, only to find Rosemary herself staying there.

The three women go to see the body apparently belonging to Rosemary Boxer but find it is actually a female archaeologist called Gemma Jackson, who studied at he same university as Rosemary.

Deciding to use the problem of the dying plants at Engleton Park as a cover to find out what has been going on, Rosemary and Laura discover not all things are as they appear to be...

Swords Into Ploughshares

Rosemary and Laura are called to Rowfield to find out the cause of a mysterious blight, which only seems to affect the plants from gardens competing in the local open day competition.

The competition is fierce between those after the first prize and the duo soon discover that the competitors are blaming each other for the troublesome blight.

Suspecting the soil in each garden is being contaminated by weed killer as an act of sabotage, Rosemary and Laura discover the competitors will do anything to win, when they come across the dead body of last years winner Mr Westwood...

Up The Garden Path

Strapped for cash on their latest job and with no Land Rover, Rosemary and Laura pull out all the stops to try rid Woodley Court Hotel's vineyard of pestering weeds. But while trying to ensure that the latest crop is saved, the pair soon find themselves also investigating the murder of Angus Fairley, a famous critic and close friend of Rosemary's, who was visiting the area...

The Cup of Silence (Christmas Special)

With a Royal visit planned for Wellminster Cathedral, Rosemary and Laura find themselves hired to help restore an old monastery garden at the cathedral in time for the visit, although not everyone is pleased by their presence. The Gooseberry Bush

While Rosemary and Laura are helping to do up a garden for a Spanish tennis camp that is holding a tournament, in which Laura's son is taking part, tragedy strikes when the body of one of the Pro-Am tournament players is discovered. Although the player is thought to have died in a drunken accident, the gardeners soon find evidence that they were murdered, especially when the player's wife is killed in an accident intended for someone else. The pair soon realise that something is not right within the tennis camp...

Raquet Espanol

Rosemary is delighted to be working on the garden of an open-air theatre with Laura, as her cousin Charles is an actor preparing for his role in an amateur production. But during rehearsals, one of the actors is suddenly killed by a prop gun, which police discover had been loaded with live ammo instead of blanks. The two gardeners soon wonder if someone is out to sabotage the play, or whether there is another motive at work...
