During a snowy Christmas season in Sweden, psychologist and profiler Inger Johanne Vik finds not only herself but also her autistic daughter drawn into the investigation of a number of disturbing deaths, through which she meets detective Ingvar Nyman of “Rikskrim,” a Swedish national police force.

Inger Johanne Vik has previously worked as a profiler for the FBI and is now back in Sweden with her two daughters. She has made up her mind to spend more time with her kids and less time working, as her eldest daughter Stina, who has been diagnosed with autism, becomes a witness to a murder.

Episode 1

The realization that Stina has been through a terrible experience really starts to sink in for Inger Johanne. Ingvar goes to Uppsala to investigate the murder of Bishop Elisabeth Lindgren that took place on Christmas night. In Uppsala it becomes clear that the secrets are growing beneath the surface.

Episode 2

After a long hesitation, Inger Johanne agrees to join the investigation. At the same time she tries to make sense of the information from her daughters; is there a connection between the murders? Rolf suspects that his husband is cheating on him and devises a plan to find out the truth.

Episode 3

Carlsson is brought in for questioning, during which Inger Johanne uncovers a personal connection between her and Carlsson. What does her family have to do with the investigation? Erik visits the woman in the picture from the bishop's study. Inger Johanne discovers a link between the murders.

Episode 4

Ingvar uncovers a lead that seems to support Inger Johanne's theory about the motive behind the murders. Inger Johanne remembers something from her time at the FBI that seems to be related to the case; can the FBI help her? The bishop's son goes to see Ingvar to share a suspicion he has.

The noose tightens around Marcus Ståhl, who has ended up in a very precarious situation. What is the ship owner hiding from those around him? In the middle of a briefing about the killer's MO, Inger Johanne discovers a chilling connecting between the murderer's profile and her own daughter.

Inger Johanne is closing in on the murderer, but then receives a very unsettling message in her own home. She is convinced that the key to how everything fits together can be found underneath a layer of black paint. Marcus Ståhl reaches a point where he can't lie anymore.

Stina makes a decision that puts her and her sister in danger. Inger Johanne and Ingvar see eye to eye on the killer's motives, but disagree on how to proceed. There is one final intended victim; who is it and will they get there before the killer?

Four years after Inger Johanne Vik lived her life in Washington, working for the FBI, we find out the reasons she came back to Sweden. But will it stay in the past? Helen Tyler, the president of the United States comes for a state visit and unpredictical events happen.

Swedish police put all their resources towards the search for the American president. Inger Johanne realizes that her past is about to catch up to her when Ingvar becomes the Swedish contact person for Warren Schifford.

Inger Johanne is forced to steel herself to work with Warren. The differences in culture of the Swedish police and the FBI is becoming more and more evident when the search for the president finds the dead body of bodyguard Hunter Russell.

Invar suggests he and Inger team up to track down the mole in the Swedish police force, but Warren Schifford does his best to frustrate their efforts. As evidence begins to mount, possible leads emerge in relation to President Helen Tyler’s disappearance, but Schifford insists everything points to the work of a single individual.

Swedish police search for a mole within their own ranks, while Inger Johanne leaves Ingvar behind and goes looking for the US president on her own. Meanwhile, Ingvar pays Warren a visit and some theories start to emerge about who might be behind the president’s disappearance.

Inger Johanne wants to get help to the captive president but is surprised to discover the president doesn’t trust anyone in her own ranks. Meanwhile, there are rifts within the FBI as conflicting stories emerge about who might be behind the kidnapping. Ingvar pays a visit to someone who will turn out to be a key figure in the investigation and to have links to Helen Tyler’s past.

Someone is tracking the signal from the missing US president’s mobile phone. Meanwhile, both the president and Inger Johanne are haunted by ghosts from their past. Ingvar and Warren form an unlikely partnership to try and push forward with the investigation.
