Tomoya Okazaki is a third year high school student resentful of his life. His mother passed away from a car accident when he was younger, causing his father to resort to alcohol and cigarettes. This results in fights between the two until Tomoya's shoulder is injured in a fight. Since then, Tomoya has had distant relationships with his father, causing him to become a delinquent over time. While on a walk to school, he meets a strange girl named Nagisa Furukawa who is a year older, but is repeating due to illness. Due to this, she is often alone as most of her friends have moved on. The two begin hanging out and slowly, as time goes by, Tomoya finds his life shifting in a new direction.

The first season is more light hearted than the second. The second season is were the series becomes more than just a romantic show.

If you watch this show and it’s second season all the way through, you grow with the characters and by the end you will laugh and cry

This is the single most beautiful thing. This is perhaps the first time a piece of media has broken me. I’m going to need some time.

The benchmark for what a romance show to be. Great characterization, great directing and superb soundtrack that makes you cry your eyes out.

Whilst the first season may be slow and dull, it lays a strong emotional foundation which will be exploited for tear extraction en masse

The best Drama anime in my opinion. Season 2 really pulls at your heart strings. High probably it will make you cry. Have tissues on hand.

The climax of every arc is heartwarming. But those minutes don't justify the journey. The other 90% of the time, the series is just boring.
