I didn't realize Hugh Laurie was so funny until I watched this and with Stephen Fry it's no wonder this is a British classic.
Two great comedians delivering smart sketch comedy in their youth that mostly holds up even today. Surprising that it’s not better known.
One of the best british comedy duos, great sketch show, so funny even after many rewatches!
Intelligent sketch comedy. A lot of humour comes from playful linguistics. A perfect comedic duo.
Trite and light, occasionally very smart, often decadent.
Dated but worth dipping into purely for nostalgic reasons
Every time I watch this there's something else that makes me laugh. Hugh and Stephen have such amazing chemistry.
Two fantastic minds performing marvelously funny skits and songs.
Classic sketch show. That Mitchell and Webb Look is better, but this came first. Great actors better known for other things now.
Amazing sketch comedy. Fry and Laurie work so well together.

Blackadder traces the deeply cynical and self-serving lineage of various Edmund Blackadders throughout British history, from the muck of the Middle Ages to the frontline of The Great War.
Black Books centres around the foul tempered and wildly eccentric bookshop owner Bernard Black. Bernard’s devotion to the twin pleasures of drunkenness and wilful antagonism deepens and enriches both his life and that of Manny, his assistant. Bearded, sweet and good, Manny is everything that Bernard isn’t and is punished by Bernard relentlessly just for the crime of existing. They depend on each other for meaning as Fran, their oldest friend, depends on them for distraction.
Black Books is a haven of books, wine and conversation, the only threat to the group’s peace and prosperity is their own limitless stupidity.
