The tripods were amazing they scared my girlfriend, would recommend this movie when there is nothing else to watch even if you already did

Aliens threaten Earth. Cruise plays a family man well; T. Robbins, a convincing wacko. Spielberg succeeds in a film set mostly underground.
Great story and is way better than the original. I believe it follows the book well but haven’t read it in years
