The special effects are pretty good for the time. The rest of the movie is not.
A classic. Ruined my childhood. No wonder the Thing is one of my favourite movies as an adult.

As a more or less fan of Jamie Lee it's a brilliant departure 4 her away from Halloween, with a strong cast & unique plot! Liked it a lot!
