Mona Bergeron is dead, her frozen body found in a ditch in the French countryside. From this, the film flashes back to the weeks leading up to her death. Through these flashbacks, Mona gradually declines as she travels from place to place, taking odd jobs and staying with whomever will offer her a place to sleep. Mona is fiercely independent, craving freedom over comfort, but it is this desire to be free that will eventually lead to her demise.

Subtle, chapter-like bookends throughout. Fine use of cutaways and brief interviews commentating on the protagonist. Not just poverty porn.
Wow. Takes a while to hook you but when you reach the end it's absolutely marvelous.
A story similar to Into The Wild, but she kind of screws over everyone she meets. An interesting study.
I loved this movie. A beautiful character study of a woman who travels place to place and makes an impact on everyone she meets.
Hard to watch but worth it if you think cinema it's not just entertainment, but also a way to empathize with realities different from yours.
a girl who died while escaping the governments imposed system
An important, tragic and crude story of a drifter woman meeting people across different social classes and backgrounds.
Vagabond underscores the hypocrisy of a world that only acknowledges the struggles of certain women when it's far too late to help them.
A sad story filmed as a documentary: very interesting, maybe not for everyone
A tortuous road paved by a wild spirit and much loneliness.
