A pair of siblings from London [Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey] purchase a surprisingly affordable, lonely cliff-top house in Cornwall, England. Only to discover that it actually carries a ghostly price, and soon they’re caught up in a bizarre romantic triangle from beyond the grave. Rich in atmosphere, The Uninvited, directed by Lewis Allen, was groundbreaking for the seriousness with which it treated the supernatural, haunted house genre, and it remains an elegant and eerie experience, featuring a classic score by Victor Young. A tragic family past, a mysteriously locked room, cold chills, bumps in the night - this gothic Hollywood classic has it all.

If they hadn’t undercut the moments of horror with slapstick, this could have been one of the most haunting films of all time.
Dated in its presentation, but still an interesting, atmospheric, and worthwhile ur take on the cinematic ghost story as we know it.
This has been a favorite of mine for awhile.
Mysterious & genuinely chilling, with some surprisingly funny jokes thrown in. Extra originality points for siblings as the main characters.
A entertaining ghost story with some humorous moments
Holds up extremely well as one of the best in the haunted house genre, all in all a very fun and smartly made thriller.
A classic ghost story. Haunted house by the sea and a Gothic plot setting.
Truly the most intelligent, believable haunting film I have ever seen. Effects were great, considering the time period it was filmed.
Kind of boring and really shows its age. The acting is passable and the effects are fine for such an old movie. Mostly just confusing.
