T. Williams went thru a religious crisis. This film reflects it. Minister can't find a moral center. Lots of symbolism: consider the title.
A character study film tackling topics like gender, sexual desire, religion and morals. Gripping drama not lacking some dark humor
I found Burton’s performance largely insincere, but the film still worked for me owing chiefly to Houston’s direction and the lush setting.
A play adapted into a movie. It’s fine. The actors do their jobs well. Would rather have seen it as a play.
