A brilliant movie about longing and isolation. It works beautifully
A woman rebrands and reclaims her life as a metaphor for Germany rebuilding after WWII. Cynical and slightly humorous drama. 7 out of 10.
31/2* Maria uses wits to survive post-Hitler Germany. Hooks up with U.S. soldier, finds her war-weary husband. Shows how war has no winners.
Great exploration of the intersection between gender and class, showing what a woman will go through to thrive in postwar Germany
One of Fassbinder's more literal history films but also one of his more accessible for that reason
