Aging King George III of England is exhibiting signs of madness, a problem little understood in 1788. As the monarch alternates between bouts of confusion and near-violent outbursts of temper, his hapless doctors attempt the ineffectual cures of the day. Meanwhile, Queen Charlotte and Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger attempt to prevent the king's political enemies, led by the Prince of Wales, from usurping the throne.

Hawthorne is incredible. The dialogue is sharp when it needs to be. I know it’s historical, but the ending is still a bit anticlimactic.
Nigel Hawthorne shines, the script sparkles; funny and moving.
An historic movie that is interesting and the king is the whole movie.
Some great acting in this. Ian Holm is impeccable and Nigel Hawthorne is amazing. What, what?
Outstanding performance from Nigel Hawthorne, brilliant script and dialogue, gorgeously filmed. Period drama done right.
Superb acting & historical recreation. The underlying story is just not quite interesting enough to be dramatised as a feature length film.
Nigel Hawthorne plays King George, a portrayal both pathetic and funny. It ends up being a heart rending representation of mental illness.
Stylish, funny true film shows George III ruler of England during Am. Rev. War, suffering from strange illness. British do this genre well.
Hawthorn was great showing his "sides". Mirren always portrays her royal self perfectly.
Not a movie for me. Very boring and the audio was mixed weird so it was hard to understand
