In the late 1970s, Cockney crime boss Harold Shand, a gangster trying to become a legitimate property mogul, has big plans to get the American Mafia to bankroll his transformation of a derelict area of London into the possible venue for a future Olympic Games. However, a series of bombings targets his empire on the very weekend the Americans are in town. Shand is convinced there is a traitor in his organization, and sets out to eliminate the rat in typically ruthless fashion.

Superb acting from Bob Hoskins, steals the show as an all-time Gangster.
Joe Cocklin

You know a gangster film is good when it ain’t about the action. Also a lot of early careers in this one

Like a double sized episode of The Sopranos in the the best way possible.

Some great sequences in here. Expressive moments of silent acting. Loved Bob Hoskins.

Enjoyable enough. My interest in the plot wanes quite a bit towards the end, but the end is good.

Watching the cracks form and widen as chaos disrupts peace, maintaining humanity within its aesthetics, placing character at the forefront.
Daryl

The British Godfather, super underrated here. Bob Hopkins and Helen Mirren are maybe the most perfect husband and wife in a gangster film
Michael Margetis

That ending shot is one of the greatest bits of silent acting I’ve ever seen.

Supporting actors were not good. The movie was all about mob boss character.
