Hollyyyy shit holy shit. This Gena Rowlands performance. Holllyyyy shit this Gena Rowlands performance.
A companion piece to A Woman Under the Influence, Rowlands exhibits similar traits within a more smug character
mind-bending, frustrating, heartbreaking, unpredictable and endlessly rewatchable. the right way to show theatre on film. bravo Gena!
Gena Rowlands is beyond captivating in this Cassavetes film that he considered his best work. 9/10
Not Cassavetes’ most tightly-paced, but an ample reminder of why Rowlands is one of the all time greatest actresses.
Rowlands is electrifying in Cassavetes raw, funny, painful study of aging, performance, and selfdestruction. Demanding but deeply rewarding.
Gena Rowlands’s stellar performance can only carry the film’s repetitive story so far, and 1h 30 min in I’m still waiting for something new
The play sequences are amazing and overall this does such a good job blurring reality, but it’s all so dull and doesn’t amount to anything
Perfection. Just look and marvel at the implications provided by camera and color. Undoubtedly an influence for Lynch's Mulholland Drive.
Takes one to know one.
