As a parting shot, fired reporter Ann Mitchell prints a fake letter from unemployed "John Doe," who threatens suicide in protest of social ills. The paper is forced to rehire Ann and hires John Willoughby to impersonate "Doe." Ann and her bosses cynically milk the story for all it's worth, until the made-up "John Doe" philosophy starts a whole political movement.

Sweet and fun at first: Cooper is perfect as humble Doe/Stanwyck is, as always, marvelous. Latter half drags interminably.
Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck are in it, so it’s gonna be great.
Nice chemistry between Stanwyck & Cooper as she brings the brains and he has the heart.
Fantastic. This should be as well known as Frank Capra's other holiday classic It's A Wonderful Life. Yes, it's that good.
Classic journalist black and white template with a good message. Cooper and Stanwyck play well.
Anything by Frank Capra is incredible and this is one of his best.
Great little parable film with Capra’s typical themes. Stanwyck works overtime to make up for Cooper’s stoic performance.
Classic journalist black and white template with a good message. Cooper and Stanwyck play well.
Not super memorable, and some of the moments last far too long, but definitely not terrible.
