Taking its title from an archaic Japanese word meaning "ghost story," this anthology adapts four folk tales. A penniless samurai marries for money with tragic results. A man stranded in a blizzard is saved by Yuki the Snow Maiden, but his rescue comes at a cost. Blind musician Hoichi is forced to perform for an audience of ghosts. An author relates the story of a samurai who sees another warrior's reflection in his teacup.

Beautiful set designs and an interesting look at Japanese fables
So beautifuly and magical, yet horrifying
One of the most insanely well crafted films made. A anthology of Japanese folklore tales that drip in haunting atmosphere
I love anthology films, especially horror, and I think folk tales are way cool, so this was right up my alley.
Such a classic. Not exaggerating, probably the best set design I’ve ever seen on screen. As they say, “they don’t make em like this anymore”
Strange but great visuals lead to a truely unsettling (and really long) film
Easily the greatest anthology horror film ever made, and possibly the greatest anthology period. Very important film if u can watch it
An absolutely stunning take on the dark fairy tale, and one of the best anthologies you’re likely to see.
As with most anthologies, some pieces are better than others, but the good ones are truly memorable works of filmmaking
Absolutely gorgeous! I wonder if american filmmakers in 65 were watching Kwaidan and were like ‘what the hell is that?!!’ All time classic
