A study in contrasts set in and around Havana that explores Cuba's 1959 revolution: a young woman's fascination with the excess of an American-owned casino leads to her downfall in the eyes of her street vendor boyfriend; a tenant farmer revolts the only way he knows how, attacking the land he works; university students gain first-hand knowledge of political upheaval; and, in the hills outside the city, the members of a poor peasant family are patriotically swept up into the burgeoning revolt.

In praise of Cuban socialism. One of most beautifully shot films ever. If Lawrence of Arabia was made by Muslims people would say it sucked.

An important leftist movie that's not only a compelling political statement but a tribute to Cuban people and culture. Loved it

On occasion a little lacking in engaging characters, but an enthralling exploration of national identity with great cinematography to boot

First two acts are sublime, and visually it’s an incredible film piece, but it stretches itself thin with that overtly swooning ending.
