Probably the best pre 1939 film I've seen aside from maybe some early Hitchcock. The ending is absolutely chilling.
Muni makes the film work with his desperate attempt to avoid unjust incarceration at a time the justice system was brutal.
Great early example of a "message" film and how the power of a movie can shed light on injustice.
