When the characters aren’t racing, it’s just a bunch of soapy relationship drama. Yet Frankenheimer’s directing of the races is outstanding.
Even if it’s 30 minutes too long the racing sequences are spectacular and it’s unusually thoughtful for a “sports” film.
Incredible to see fantastic driving and cars from that era. A far cry from over the top car movies today, it's a real racing purist film.
Classic movie with an excellent cast. I saw this at the theater when it was new. Now it seems to be forgotten
James Garner is always fun, but this film relies on what are now obviously fake racing sequences. Pulls me completely out of the movie.
Really way too many shots of cars, just that’s all there is. No story, no characters, I was expecting something a little more fleshed out.
If you like Formula 1 this is a poor representation of the sport. If you don't like F1 then this is just a terrible film.
Amazing cinematography and racing sequences. Hard to believe they got those shots with manual editing, and giant 70mm cameras.
The racing scenes are fantastic.
