Twenty years removed from Alice Barlow's murder by a thief looking for her jewels, newlyweds Paul and Bella Mallen move into the very house where the crime was committed. Retired detective B.G. Rough, who worked on the Barlow case, is still in the area and grows suspicious of Paul, who he feels bears a striking resemblance to one of Barlow's relatives. Rough must find the truth before the killer can strike again and reclaim his bounty.

Where the term gaslight was initially popularized. Suspenseful. Worth watching.
Diana Wynyard as Bella is so meek and fragile, it breaks your heart to see the continual humiliations she suffers start to break her down.
Such a great film. Very good acting and a very good script. Well worth watching both this version and the 1944 version.
Beautiful photography and acting, Wohlbrück is an amazing villain to hate, mesmerizing and infuriating to watch him lie and abuse poor Bella
More than 1 hour of a man making a woman think that she's crazy. It's frustrating.
I've yet to watch the remake, but I very much enjoyed this version. Anton Walbrook is absolutely mesmerising.
Be prepare to sit for 84 minutes seeing the man torturing the woman
A movie that all man should watch to feel the agony that they could never feel in real life and maybe stop torturing us
Surprisingly difficult to watch. This is where the expression “gaslighting” comes from, btw.
Very forward thinking and explores a different level of horror. Very stilted and dated acting choices
