For the debut feature of a budding filmmaker it’s not terrible, but it does leave a lot to be desired and does not fulfill its ambitions.
Not the best of stories or execution but we can witness the beginnings of one of the greatest to ever do it.
Interesting as an early Kubrick but not comparable with his later work.
That one guy guarding the woman tied to the tree made me uncomfortable
you should have hidden it better, Kubrick
There were aspects of it I really liked, especially when you can see Kubrick tropes but otherwise boring.
This is clearly a director finding his voice but there’s a lot to appreciate about this little film.
The irony is interesting, Stanley’s directing was decent, probably wouldn’t watch again…
Ce premier film de Kubrick nous met déjà en valeur son génie cinématographique. Parfait autant dans l’histoire que dans le jeu des acteurs !
Philosophical themes and impressive cinematography and editing make this good. Bits of dialogue are laughable though, and it getsproblematic
