Murnau’s epic adaptation of Goethe’s tragedy stands with Fritz Lang’s Metropolis among the supreme achievements of German silent cinema. Gösta Ekman plays the alchemist who, his faith shaken in a time of plague, is offered the gift of healing and eternal youth… in exchange for his soul.

Chilling visuals, a masterpiece of early cinema
A gorgeous and unsettling adaptation of a timeless story.
I have trouble following silent films but this was real entertainment and art at the same time.
Decent, powerful film. One of the better silent films I've seen besides the comedies of Chaplin and Keaton.
Not a huge fan, best studied as film history, not for enjoyment
A timeless classic. Faust proves that even before the supernatural, true horror lies in human ambition, vanity, and its tragic fall. Indeed.
The visuals blew me away, and the story lends itself to any period really well.
Sometimes old horror movies like these tend to be more chilling than the modern ones.
Some amazing imagery that still holds up perfectly. I actually much prefer this to Nosferatu (1922).
A great first hour gives way to a sluggish, disappointing second half.
