Based on the true story of a Russian serial killer who, over many years, claimed victim to over 50 people. His victims were mostly under the age of 17. In what was then a communists state, the police investigations were hampered by bureaucracy, incompetence and those in power. The story is told from the viewpoint of the detective in charge of the case.

Fantastic expose' not just on Chikatilo but strain & courage of detective behind Iron Curtain Rea & Sutherland's relationship is outstanding
Better than silence of the lambs. Not changing my stance on it:)
the movie is very slow and I think it could have been done more interesting, but still was a nice movie
Similar to Spotlight and Serpico, it gives the viewer a feeling of having no power, as corruption just takes over. Respect to lead detective
They had a good story but could not tell it in an interesting way. They went out of their way to make it boring. You'll want 2 skip it.
A murder mystery set within the confines of the Soviet Union. A brilliant film in my opinion.
A murder mystery within the strictly controlled confines of the Soviet regime and it's reality contorting Politbureau. Very interesting.
Based on the true case of serial killer Tschikatilo... It's thrilling and uncomfortable to watch at the same time... Would recommend!
First HBO film. Donald S. good as usual: Russian bureaucrat, seeking a serial killer of children in Soviet Union. A police procedural.
Very slow, but still a good thriller.
