Brute Force (1947) proves that prison is hell, Hume Cronyn is the devil, and Burt Lancaster is the pissed-off angel of vengeance.

Somewhat stagy, but pretty good anyway. “Calypso” the singing prisoner is pretty ridiculous though.

Nail biting prison drama with an excellent performance from Lancaster

Hopeful and bleak. All your 40s Hollywood tropes but its themes and performances keep it above average.
