London, 1929. Frank Webber, a very busy Scotland Yard detective, seems to be more interested in his work than in Alice White, his girlfriend. Feeling herself ignored, Alice agrees to go out with an elegant and well-mannered artist who invites her to visit his fancy apartment.

Hitchcock’s first talkie, worth checking out if you’re a fan.
The 1st British talkie was also Hitch's 1st talkie & the oldest film I've seen. Astounding how much Hitchcock was already Hitchcock.
This has some of the best sound design. The knife is a incredibly good scene. A master at work.
The first Hitchcock movie. The first try.. An unrefined diamond.
Un très bon film de suspense à la Hitchcock avec une histoire plutôt intéressante.
A worthwhile early Hitchcock that has a gripping plot and excellent acting. It’ll keep you guessing. Great atmosphere and tension.
A surprisingly adept early talkie — despite sagging in the middle, Hitch’s artistry was already shining through.
Awesome Alfred Hitchcock movie. Being Hitchcock's first movie with sound he uses the new medium in a really unique way!
I wish it had a different name. The blackmail kicks off the final act, making the film as a while seem to drag.
Quality tension-building.
