Young lovers Orfeu and Eurydice run through the favelas of Rio during Carnaval, on the lam from a hitman dressed like Death and Orfeu's vengeful fiancée Mira and passing between moments of fantasy and stark reality. This impressionistic retelling of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice introduced bossa nova to the world with its soundtrack by young Brazilian composers Luiz Bonfá and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Haven't seen it, see it. Seen it? see it again. Why does death want Eurydice? Because she is pure, eternal love that can conquer death.
I love this movie! Beautiful aesthetic, engaging plot line based on a Greek myth, gorgeous sad ending
Extremely beautiful, whether for the history, landscape or music
One if not the most beautiful film I've ever seen. Its beautiful to watch, the music is amazing, and the happiness is so pure.
Light on plot, but heavy on infectious joy, Black Orpheus is a delightful celebration of Mardi Gras
Amazing music& scenery. This retelling works beautifully
This film stands out like no other — it’s authentic, compelling, poetic, romantic and tragic all at once. The music especially is amazing
A great take on the old tragedy, but more like a play than a period piece. Good tunes.
The music is incredible. The colors are bright. The actors are all wonderful. The story is tragic.
What do you do when festivities are in the air but fate has already decided your love and your death?
