Suburbanite Ron is spoiled, young and not overly worried about the marijuana charges leveled against him. But, after being made out to be a drug dealer, he faces a five-year jail sentence in San Quentin State Prison. Physically frail and unaccustomed to his rough surroundings, Ron is primed to fall victim to sexual predators and bullying guards – that is, until he's befriended by Earl, a veteran inmate who finds meaning in protecting the vulnerable new kid.

Unfocused and simple filmmaking dent a realistic and interesting prison drama based on the great novel by the incredible Edward Bunker

Fantastic look into the prison life with great performances throughout. Not enough story for the run time, but still a really good movie.

Good prison movie with all-star cast, not to complex but good

This is just okay. If you want a good Buscemi directed movie watch Trees Lounge.

It's fine, but for a prison drama doesn't quite go as far as it could

Nicely directed and has really good leading characters. Although the film feels a bit disposable, it’s still a good watch.

It's a good story, but I found it to be occasionally boring. Buscemi is a great actor, but no style as a director.
